In the Richmond region and nationwide, the housing affordability crisis continues to grow. In this class, real estate licensees will learn how our market is impacted and how to be trusted advisors to prospective purchasers on the best affordable homeownership opportunities in Central Virginia. Topics covered include:
- Analyzing the current affordable housing needs, data, terminology, demand, impact and trends in the Richmond metro region
- Identifying the barriers to opportunity in the housing market for seniors, renters, manufactured homeowners, and cost-burdened buyers
- Examining the current resource development, zoning change opportunities, and urban planning efforts to fund and create more affordable housing units in the region
- Explaining the community land trust (CLT) as a model for affordable housing in perpetuity and who qualifies for homeownership in this program
- Learning the process for the CLT including the application, purchase, maintenance, and resale of a CLT home
